The foundation

We firmly adhere to these principles both in our organizational structure and in the projects, we choose to support. As a non religious entity, we prioritize inclusivity and respect for all religious beliefs, ensuring that our initiatives do not favor any particular faith or ideology. Similarly, our commitment to being apolitical underscores our dedication to neutrality and impartiality, steering clear of any political affiliations or biases. Consequently, we exclusively fund projects that align with these values, ensuring that they too remain nondenominational and apolitical, fostering a culture of unity and collaboration for the betterment of society.

Our beneficiaries are people living in some of the world’s poorest and most fragile regions, refugees, returnees, IDPs, host communities and those most at risk of exclusion or neglect, who, due to displacement, conflict, or extreme poverty, often have no access to land to cultivate, food security, education, or stable employment. Their marginalization is compounded by social tensions and the fact that these areas are frequently overlooked by traditional donors because of high perceived risks. That’s why we support livelihood projects designed by those directly affected, and we rely on experienced local staff who understand the context from within.
To ensure quality and sustainability, we have chosen to work with LWF World Service as our field partner, a non-political, non-religious branch of the Lutheran World Federation dedicated to international cooperation. With over 70 years of experience since 1952, World Service implements projects through local staff, ensuring that initiatives are developed on the ground by local communities in collaboration with local governments.
Before committing to any project, we carefully select from a range of proposals based on relevance, feasibility, and potential impact. We assess progress, strengthen relationships with local actors, and ensure transparency, accountability, and ongoing monitoring.

Why Switzerland

A key focus of our work is fundraising in Switzerland to ensure the long-term viability of the projects we support. Rooted in Swiss values and founded in a country renowned for its humanitarian tradition, OBF draws strength from a deeply held spirit of solidarity. We know that many people in Switzerland feel a strong desire to support others where they live and build their future. This culture of helping is part of the national identity—Switzerland, as the home of many international organizations and a symbol of neutrality, has long been a place where global cooperation and compassion converge. Through meaningful partnerships, we offer donors the opportunity to make a real difference on the ground. Ninety-five percent of all funds go directly to projects that advance OBF’s mission. We do not cover LWF-WS operational costs; every contribution supports concrete, community-driven initiatives.
